The Local Area and Activities

Out and About

The surrounding area offers an abundance of activities and places to visit. Below are just a selection of these with links to give you a feel for the area.

Within only a short drive you will be in the Parc Naturel Regional de la Brenne covering some 160 000 ha and containing many varied natural areas from woodland to lakes with an abundance of both wildlife, from insect to wild boar, and a rich plant life, from orchids to majestic old oaks.
Witnin the restored buildings of a traditional farm, the "Maison du Parc" is open throughout the year where there are slide shows in English, temporary exhibitions, interactive displays, an information centre, and a sales area with local produce.

The historic village and Spa Resort of La Roche Posay is just down the road (6km), and apart from it's fame as one of the most popular Spa resorts in France, it also offers host of other activities, including a casino, golf course and cinema, not to mention the program of festivials and shows which are staged throughout the year.

The Southern Touraine region is right on your doorstep and offers a vast selection of Museums, churches and Roman ruins. Within a 45 minute drive you will find Montresor, said to be one of the most picturesque villages in France, and Loches, one of the many medieval towns in the region, - both well worth a visit.

Futuroscope theme park provides a full day out for all the family. Within its futuristic buildings are a collection of attractions, from film shows in 3D cinemas to interactive exhibitions. Using the latest in audio visual technology and a host of special effects it provides a multimedia experience which is both unique and educational.

A short 35 minute drive will take you to the medieval town of Chauvigny, where you will find Les Geants du Ciel, a stunning display of free flying birds of prey set to the back drop of the majestic ruins of the Bishops' Chateau.

Lac Saint Cyr is an inland lake with sandy beaches and within easy reach of Napres. There you will find a wealth of watersport activities, walks and picnic areas. Also just along the road from the lake there is Quad Biking for the more adventurous

A visit to the Argentomagus museum will lead you on a fabulous adventure through a million years, from prehistory to the end of the Roman era. The museum uses audiovisual displays, touchscreens and light shows to carry you gently from the prehistoric deposits of the Creuse Valley towards the remains of the town of Argentomagus.

The Vienne Region has a wide variety of tourist attractions - too many to list here, but these can be explored through the this link. A short 12 km drive will take you to Angles sur l'Anglin which has been awarded the 3 flower label for its floral decoration and is rated as one of the most beautiful villages in France.

France-Voyage also gives an insight to the surrounding area by selecting either Centre for Tours and the surrounding Indre-et-Loire Region or Poitou-Charentes for the area towards Poitiers and the Vienne region. Follow the links on these pages to find many other places to visit and see.

The Loire region, often referred to as The Garden of France, has a rich architectural heritage with it's hundreds of Chateaux dotted throughout the area. Many of these Chateaux date back to the 17th and 18th centuries and many also boost magnificent gardens which are worth a visit in their own right. Chateaux of the Loire and Experience Loire are two sites which may help in planning your visit.

Eating Out

As well as the local restaurant within walking distance in Yzeures sur Creuse, there are a wealth other places to dine out in both La Roche Posay (6 km) and Preuilly sur Claise (9 km).

Yzeures sur Creuse

Locally in Yzeures sur Creuse you will find all the amenities you will need during your stay. As well as a restaurant there is a bar, two bakers, a butcher, a post office and bank. On the edge of the village there is a retail area with supermarket, petrol station and homeware stores.
A 5 minute walk from the gite to the River Creuse will take you to the open air swimming pool, tennis courts and an open park area. Within the village there is also the local museum.
